Just one other thing, their manager Marco Spano has requested that all supporters where something 'pink', that's right he's the one wearing the pink t-shirt and pink shorts! ![]() Henfield White Hart Twenty20 Cup Winners 2017Steyning Twenty20 Squad won the Henfield White Hart Twenty20 Cup for the third time in four years although their path to the final wasn't exactly smooth. After losing in the early stages to Streat and Westmeston by 1 run, followed by a comfortable win over Henfield saw Steyning finish runners up in their group earning themselves an away semi-final at Burgess Hill.Burgess Hill batted first posting 143 for 6, in the chase Steyning finished their innings on 143 for 6 thanks to a four off the final ball of the innings. With no directive in the rules for a tied scores and wickets result a phone call was made to the competition organizers. As it was too dark for a bowl off and some players had already left, the result was decided on the toss of a coin, with Captain Gary Hunt making the right choice and therefore Steyning progressed to the final. The final was hosted by Henfield CC on a very warm summer evening. Steyning batted first setting Ditchling a target of 170 to win. Ditchling got off to a quick start and with 4 overs to go and only 3 wickets down it looked like Steyning's score of 169 wasn't going to be enough but with Ditchling needing 28 off 24 balls Steyning held their nerve and Ditchling fell short by 9 runs.Great team effort and the first silverware of the season!
Thank you to Henfield CC for being the perfect hosts. ![]() Elliot BrownExciting news for the club, with under 15 Elliot Brown being selected for the ECB Regional Disability Talent Development Program.During his time with Steyning, Elliot has become an important member of our talented and extremely successful under 15's side. When Elliot first arrived at the club, he was a steady medium pace bowler, who naturally bowled an off cutter. He kept things tight but didn’t really threaten. We felt that given the fact that he naturally bowled an off cutter that a switch to off spin made sense. This was at the back end of the 2013 season and Elliot’s first full season as a spinner culminated in taking a hat trick in the SJCF final.Since then, Elliot has been part of the Sussex Disability squad, where he has worked closely with current England Disability spin bowler Fred Bridges.Well done Elliot and Good Luck with your ECB training!Andy Simmons (Steyning Coach)![]() U14's Winners of SJCF Bowl 2015![]() The under 14’s Steyning Cricket Team have become back to back winners of the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival Bowl Competition 2014 and 2015.. The final on Sunday 9th August was a comprehensive batting display, 202 for 4, and an outstanding fielding and bowling display against a very good Eastbourne CC team who were dismissed for 68. The week was blessed with good weather and resulted in 4 wins and 1 winning draw beating Hurstpierpoint, Horsham and Ansty and getting a winning draw against Preston Nomads where we just couldn’t get the last wicket.
The boys performances were outstanding both individually and as a team and are worthy winners and I am very proud of how they applied themselves in each and every game. They were awesome with every player making valuable contributions. The player of the week was Nathan Tyler who contributed with both bat and ball but more importantly those contributions were always at critical times in the matches.
Thank you to all who supported us and to those that helped make it a fantastic week for the boys, you know who you are, and in particular the hard work put in by wife, Jane to yet again win the best cricket teas in Sussex badge !!
One last game to come on 18 August 2015…... another final - the T20 League Cup final against Preston Nomads…...
Report by Marco Spano (Manager) ![]() U12'S SJCF 27th July to 31st July 2015The U12’s cricket festival held between 27 - 31 July 2015 was a joy to be apart of. The colts made me proud. We scored 759 runs, took 46 out 50 wickets and didn’t have a bad day in the field. We had fun and the colts really progressed throughout the week and we will be stronger for it.
Below is an email I received from the Barnes Green Manager to whom I had wished good luck in the final.
Thank you very much. Yesterday at Steyning was the best game we have had all week (and the best tea). You have some very good players there and they are a credit to all involved, very polite and good sports. Well done to Ben on his 95 you must be very proud of him.
Any time you guys want a friendly next season you are always welcome at BGCC. Nice to meet Dennis yesterday... club men like him are few and far between these days and he obviously loves his cricket. Please pass on my regards to Pat, we always feel very welcome when we come to you, thanks.
We are doing things in the right way…….
